McGee is the Assistant Director for Radiation Safety and Radiation Safety Officer at the University of Maryland\, College Park. Previously\, McGee served for more than a decade as a senior scientist within the RadCon program at the Nevada National Security Site and with the Department of Energy’s Remote Sensing Laboratory (RSL). He also worked as lead health physicist\, radiological engineer\, and astronaut dosimetrist for two commercial spaceflight firms: Bigelow Aerospace — whose inflatable module remains attached to Node 3 of the International Space Station (ISS) — and Axiom Space\, which has conducted four private astronaut missions to the ISS to date. He is a member of the Health Physics Society\, the National Register of Radiation Protection Technologists\, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics\, and he is a National Fellow of the Explorers Club. McGee holds a B.S. in Geology from the University of Wyoming\, where he specialized in infrared spectroscopy of planetary surfaces\, and an M.S. in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota\, where his research focused on ionizing radiation effects on asteroid surfaces (so-called “space weathering”). \n
