DESCRIPTION:Trusting Radiation Science:\nMeasuring what cannot be seen\n29th Annual CIRMS Meeting ▪ April 11-13\, 2022 ▪ Virtual Meeting\nDistinguished Colleagues and Friends\, \nThe 29th annual meeting of the Council on Ionizing Radiation Measurements and Standards (CIRMS) will be held April 11-13\, 2022 in a virtual format (online only). The CIRMS Executive Committee carefully considered all options for our 2022 annual meeting and concluded that a virtual format is the most viable option at this time for planning purposes on account of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual meeting format will provide you with another exciting program consisting of plenary oral presentations\, virtual poster sessions\, and working group sessions with oral presentations and ample time to discuss the Needs Report.  The working group sessions will be organized by our three subcommittees: \n\nMedical Applications: diagnostic imaging\, radiotherapy\, proton therapy nuclear medicine\, fluoroscopy\, radiobiology\, physical and computational phantoms\, radiation transport simulations\, 3D printing\, and more\nRadiation Protection and Homeland Security: advances in detection instrumentation\, emergency response\, nuclear events\, radiochemistry\, waste analysis\, personnel dosimetry\, electronic dosimeters\, bioassay and internal dosimetry\, environmental dosimetry\, first responder needs\, and more\nIndustrial Applications and Material Effects: dosimetry for radiation processing\, material effects\, space applications\, food irradiation and sterilization\, irradiators\, low dose standards\, safety at radiation facilities\, ASTM standards\, and more\n\nThe theme for this year’s meeting is “Trusting Radiation Science: Measuring what cannot be seen.” This theme covers a broad range of topics and which we hope will bring together experts from industry\, academia\, and government from across the globe to address key issues and develop our Needs Report. I invite you to visit the 2022 CIRMS Meeting website for updates on the meeting program as it is developed.  Please share our meeting flyer with your colleagues! \nOnline registration\nRegistration will open later this year. \nAbstract Submission \nWe will be accepting abstracts for virtual oral or poster presentations. While abstracts are not due until February 11\, 2022\, for best consideration for an oral presentation we recommend submitting by December 10\, 2021. Please visit the 2022 CIRMS meeting website for more details on how to submit an abstract. \nJunior Investigator Competition\nAs in previous years\, CIRMS proudly continues its tradition of supporting junior investigators. The program is open to any student or trainee from high school through postgraduate (i.e. within one year of terminal master’s or doctoral degree). Young investigators will submit essays describing their work and its relevance to the CIRMS mission which will then be scored by members of the CIRMS Executive Committee and the Caswell Fellows. Top-scoring essays will be invited to give a short virtual oral presentation at the annual meeting and also receive a monetary prize. The deadline for essay submission is February 11\, 2022.
