Biosketch:

Isabel Lauren Jackson, PhD is the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM). She serves as the Director of the Medical Countermeasure (MCM) Program and Director of the Division of Translational Radiation Sciences. Dr. Jackson’s subject matter expertise is in the field of tumor and normal tissue radiobiology, with specialized expertise in MCM development under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Animal Rule regulatory pathway. Through funding from the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), her laboratory has developed small (e.g. mouse, rat, rabbit) and large (e.g. minipig, non-human primate) animal models of acute radiation sickness (ARS) and delayed effects of acute radiation exposure (DEARE) to better understand the pathogenesis of radiation injury and screen promising MCMs in small and large animal efficacy studies. Dr. Jackson has published multiple book chapters on normal tissue tolerance to radiation, mechanisms of injury, and potential therapeutic interventions as well as more than 50 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and been interviewed for numerous podcasts including Bill Nye’s Science Rules. She is a Senior Editor for Advances in Radiation Oncology, a journal of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology.
